The people of the Christian faith are committed to peace and goodwill in the world.
It is evident in Christians' expressions of humanity that they are committed to peace and goodwill in the world due to:
The ten commandments, which are a code of conduct for Christians because humans need guidelines for behaviour to help them be the best people they can be in the community; showing their dedication to peace and goodwill in their society and the world
The fact that they are stewardsof creation who have a responsibility to care for the rest of creation and the world because they believe they are made in God's image (Genesis 1 and 2), and so, they must reflect God to others: they must be loving, kind, caring, compassionate and just to ALL people, because Jesus says in the Christian scriptures 'Love God' and 'Love your neighbour'
It is clear that Christians are committed to peace and goodwill in the world because, as people of faith they:
Receive and distribute Eucharist equally for all people, because in God's eyes no one is better than the other
Express their faith through symbols, gatherings, celebrations, sacred spaces/buildings and images of God and prayer, showing they desire peace and goodwill in the world. For example; images of God can include acts of kindness, showing that Christians are seeking peace and living out their religion by reaching out and helping the most vulnerable by doing charity work, fundraising, donating goods to those who are less fortunate than themeselves- just as Jesus did because Jesus as a person and his teachings are the model guidelines for the Chrisitan life.
Christian prayers show their committment to peace and goodwill in the world because:
Their prayers are during their worshipping of God
Christians often pray for the same things (called Cellgroups) and focus on the Bible
Christians pray for harmony, peace, thanksgiving, praise for God and for reconcilliation, to stop discrimination, racism etc, showing that they desire peace between other religions and nationalities
Prayer gives Christians hope and relieves people because they feel there is hope, that anything is possible, ie peace between differences is possible
Prayers can be songs, chants, meditation or 'self-prayer' so that they can become more peaceful individuals who can then reach out to spread their peace throughout their community and the world
Prayers allow Christians to express their faith in a way that makes them comfortable and therefore respect the peace that others allow them to have, allowing them to do the same.
Traditional Christian prayers are for harmony, showing the Christian community's desire for peace and goodwill, while special intention prayers show the individual committment to seek peace in the world.
At the completion of this unit, we as students hope that people can combine the aspects of Christianity and other peace-driven religions to make the world a better place, that is, one full of peace and goodwill for everyone.
